About

SARTA provides approximately 5,000 work rides a day

Our Riders

WHERE DOES SARTA GO?

We operate 24 fixed routes in Alliance, Akron, Canton, Jackson Township, Louisville, Massillon, and North Canton.

We go all over Stark County to grocery stores, shopping centers, medical facilities, restaurants, schools, the airport, libraries, museums, places of employment and much more.

For riders with ADA-recognized disabilities, SARTA offers Proline and Proline Plus, services that picks riders up at a point of origin and takes them to their desired destination.

DO YOU EVER ASK, WHO RIDES THE BUS?

Our riders are your neighbor, co-workers or the people behind you in line at the grocery store. Our riders are moms, dads, students, retirees and commuters.

HOW IS SARTA FUNDED?

SARTA is funded by a ¼% sales tax, federal and state grants, bus fares, contracts with local agencies. SARTA’s operating expenses are about $35.8 million. About 55% of SARTA’s operating expenses are covered by sales tax revenue.  SARTA must renew the sales tax every ten years, otherwise, we would not be able to provide quality, reliable transportation to Stark County residents.

  • Sales Tax 55.3% or about $19.9 million
  • Federal and State Grants 40.2% or about $14.4 million
  • Fares 4.0% or about $1.4 million
  • Advertising and other revenue 0.5% or $161,000

Our Fleet & The Environment

SARTA is avidly continuing the transition toward a greener, hydrogen-supported, low-emission fleet while upgrading facilities with energy-efficient and renewable technologies. SARTA is on track to significantly reduce its emissions by 2027 and move toward a near-zero-emission system. SARTA has backed this mission with a 2027 Full Climate Action Plan and an FTA Zero-Emission Transition Plan. These plans demonstrate strong alignment with federal sustainability goals and positions SARTA as a leader in alternative-fuel transit innovation.
