campaign is a nationwide safety and security awareness program. |
| Alliance Project- The new SARTA Transfer Center has taken another step toward becoming a
reality as the official groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday, May
3, 2007 at the site. Participating in the ceremony were Alliance Mayor,
Toni E. Middleton, SARTA Board Members, SARTA Executive Director,
Charles Odimgbe and SARTA Staff. The project is scheduled to begin
Monday, May 7, 2007. |
| Farebox Project - July 31, 2006, marked the completion of the installation of the new Odyssey fareboxes in SARTA's fleet. These new fareboxes have the capability to issue transfers, will display transaction and remaining card value and validate and process magnetic stripe pass cards. These new fareboxes will ease the passengers paying of fares as they board and will enable SARTA to better and more accurately calculate and track ridership. |
| Gateway Roof Project - SARTA has taken a final step in the renovation of
its Gateway Facility with the awarding of the Gateway Roof Removal and
Replacement Project contract to A.W. Ferrell & Son, Inc. This project
will remove and replace the roof on the bus storage facility. The
project started March 19, 2007 and it is estimated that the project will take ninety days to
complete.

| Advance Communications Project -
The new radio communication system is being installed in several of
SARTA’s vehicles as part of a pilot program. Upon completion of this
installation, the pilot program will be run to monitor the system. Once
the pilot program has passed all the necessary testing the remainder of
the fleet will have this system installed. We were happy to have The
Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) visit SARTA
on April 2, 2007 to preview our Advance Communications Project.

Trolley Project - A new look in SARTA transportation was ushered in on
July 24, 2006 with the addition of three trolley styled buses. The
trolley buses seat approximately 20 - 30 people and look similar to
old-fashioned streetcars. A restoration of the wooden exterior and many other
improvements have been completed on "Woody". Click here to read more and
to see trolley photos.
In an effort to minimize lunchtime congestion, and improve air quality
for Canton, as well as stimulate downtown business trade, SARTA acquired
three vintage style trolleys, to circulate downtown Canton streets,
offering a unique method of lunchtime conveyance to restaurants, stores
and other merchants in the downtown area. |
