SARTA Facts

How We Began

On December 1, 1997 the Canton Regional Transit Authority (CRTA) following the passage of a ¼% sales tax began operation as the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA), a countywide transit service.  

Current Service

Each year SARTA transports over 2.7 million riders (10,000 people a day) for individuals such as workers, seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities and students.

SARTA operates four transit centers in Alliance, Belden Village, Canton and Massillon

Fixed Route Service

    • 43 fixed route buses
    • Operates over 20 hours a day from just before 5:30 am and finishing after 1:30 am Monday through Saturday
    • Fixed Route fleet covers an average of 7,500 miles a day
    • Service covers Alliance, Akron, Canton, Cleveland,  Hartville, Jackson Township, Louisville, Massillon, North Canton and Uniontown
    • 79% of Stark County’s population lives within a ½ mile of SARTA’s fixed routes

Proline Service

    • 41 Proline buses
    • Service is available countywide for customers who meet ADA requirements
    • Operates over 20 hours a day from just before 5:30 am and finishing after 1:30 am Monday through Saturday
    • On average Proline service runs 140,000 trips a year. 

MedLine Service

    • 11 Four passenger MV1 vehicles
    • Service is avaialble for indviduals eligible for Medicaid Waiver (I/O and Level One) through the Board Developmental Disabilities)
    • For Employment, Adult Day Support and Vocational Training only.  
    • Service is countywide.
