The Stark Area Regional Transit Authority located in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and fair minded leader for the position of Executive Director/CEO.  This position serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the agency; oversees a staff of 210 employees; and reports to a nine member Board of Trustees.

SARTA operates a countywide transportation system in Stark County and provides over 2 million fixed-route and Paratransit rides annually.  In October 2006, this extraordinary organization earned national recognition by being named the “Most Outstanding Public Transportation System” in the United States for agencies of similar size.

SARTA’s reputation is built on high-performance customer service. The ED’s leadership and management are instrumental in delivering effective, economical and safe service on a consistent basis by ensuring that the agency has outstanding service planning, appropriate and well maintained vehicles, reliable schedules and most of all, well-trained and customer-oriented employees. The ED’s key responsibilities include oversight and direction of the development and implementation of transportation service programs, operating strategies, security policies and operations.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts degree - from an accredited college or university - in Public Administration, Business or related field with a minimum of 5-10 years of progressive management experience.  A Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business or related field is preferred.  Both public transit and private transportation company backgrounds will be considered. We are seeking strength of leadership with specific experience managing a diverse workforce, unionized employee groups, and customer service intensive organizations. Ability to address both strategic and tactical issues is essential.

OPERATOR REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Ohio Drivers License and no more than two (2) points within the past five (5) years.
• Successful candidates will be required to acquire a temporary permit for Class B Commercial Drivers License with passenger endorsement prior to the start of the training class.
• At least twenty-one (21) years of age High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Must have full availability (nights, weekends, holiday, etc.)
• Ability to lift 20 lbs.
• Applicant must also be able to pass a DOT Physical Examination and Drug Test

OPERATOR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Effective communication skills
• Customer service experience
• Multi-tasking ability
